The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies, the biggest seller of motorcycle insurance in the United States, conducted a nationwide on-line Survey recently.

Some information from that Survey:

Harley riders are 3 times more likely than those that ride sport bikes, to own clothing or artwork, displaying their brand (93% versus 30%).

95% of ALL riders acknowledge other bikers when riding.....37% by waving.  BUT, Harley riders are 6 times more likely to ONLY acknowledge those on Harleys.

Sport bike riders are 4 times more likely than Harley riders to NOT acknowledge other riders at all.

All rider groups said that 'Freedom" was the number one reason to ride.

Only 6% say they ride 'for the speed', and in this category was <1% of Harley riders.

Harley riders are more likely than sport bike riders to ride 4 or more hours per week.

When asked what they like to do in their spare time:
     70% of Harley riders, and 69% of sport bike riders, say it is to watch TV.

29% of sport bike riders are likely to work out at a gym; versus 23% of Harley riders.

86% of riders buy extras for their bikes, but Harley riders are TWICE as likely to spend MORE than $1000 a year at this.

Harley riders are also roughly twice as likely to add custom parts to enhance the look of the bike.

Sport bike riders are more likely to add performance items.

Women:   58% prefer to ride with their significant others.....but for MEN, 63% prefer riding with 'their friends'.
