Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

A quicky - not about to do full movie reviews on my blog, but I liked Das Parfum by Süskind a lot when I read it, and finally Hollywood dared to make a movie out of it.
Like the book, movie is out of the ordinary, slightly disturbing, and definitely worth a view.

Wikipedia in your pocket

Monday, November 27th, 2006

Back in the early days of PDA’s, when I actually used these things, I was always crammed for memory. Dreams of having, say, Project Gutenberg in my PDA stayed dreams in the era of the Palm Pilot III….
As a lot of people did, I stopped using them after a while. I still have 2 or […]

Uninvited guest, but what’s its name?

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

Since a couple of days, I have a funny guest in my living room. It is september, spider time, which was made clear to me when I walked with my face into a web when stepping out of the front door yesterday , but usually I know what sort of folk I have around […]

Java Sucks, revisited

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

In my
previous Java-bashing post, people started to pick the example apart rather than comment on the fact that Java still is missing some very obvious functionality, like closures. So I won’t come up with another example .
Anyway, I asked myself about the “solution” proposed to my little problem to use exceptions. Smalltalk […]

Magic Key which will reveal future UK lottery numbers

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

Read on The Register, this gem on eBay. I just wonder for how many good old Pound Sterling this guy can flog an old car key and some assorted junk. As I’m writing this, the top bid is 41 quid…
Go read it, you’ll have a good laugh.

How not to build brand loyalty

Wednesday, April 5th, 2006

I’ve been setting up a bit of a decent music/video system (for those that get a kick out of specs: Denon AVR-2106 receiver, 2x KEF iQ-5 front, Tannoy Mercury FC center, my old Philips bookshelf 3-way speakers for rear, and a cheapo Daewoo CRT 28″ - don’t fall for the TFT scam if you have […]

Funny thought at the Winterlympics

Friday, February 10th, 2006

I looked at a short report about the opening of the Winter Olympics - the summary is all I can stand these days, these opening ceremonies are ceremonies-by-committee: long and boring.
Anyway, they showed the Danish equipe entering the stadium. After frowning for 10 seconds, it struck me what was odd about the scene - […]

Embarrassment

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

Last Saturday, we assigned our boy scout troop the task of building cooking fires and cooking a simple meal (err… ok, warming up a can of beans ). A nice challenge in a damp forest, and always a good opportunity to bring them up-to-date with safety practices: after all, they’re playing with axes, knifes, […]

Dutch content

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

It’s mostly marketing (a sleazy way to get better search engine visibility), but there may be information of use in the new Dutch section of my website for those that read the language. The content tells potential customers what I can do for them. At the moment, it is a voluntary click, but I mean […]

Me: on the move

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

Well, after moving twice within a year it seems like I finally landed a house for the long term. Which means that a) my blogging activities will likely to be restricted in the coming weeks while I am finishing the deal, furnishing the house and moving, and b) that if you happen to be around […]
