Uninvited guest, but what’s its name?
![]()
Since a couple of days, I have a funny guest in my living room. It is september, spider time, which was made clear to me when I walked with my face into a web when stepping out of the front door yesterday
, but usually I know what sort of folk I have around in the house (Pholcidae mostly, and of course various members of Agelenidae in the garage - luckily a tad smaller here than where I lived in Southern Germany). This one, I don’t know. Looks like Amaurobiidae but I’m hardly a spider expert and I can’t find any picture that is quite similar to my little friend here.

So, the purpose of this blog post: any spider lovers out there who know what this ~1cm small creature is doing in my living room? So far, it doesn’t seem to be too active in chasing down mosquitos… (yes, these are ridges/indentations in its back segment - is that a sign of dehydration or something?)

Update: did some more searching, I’m putting my money on Nuctenea umbratica.
