Newcastle University’s administration consists of total dumbfucks

The Register shows yet another example of university administrators striving to be politically correct (in this case revoking someone’s web access after he posted a discussion on why vegetarianism is misguided), ignoring centuries of very good reasons why universities must be places where there is freedom of speech and debate. I’d say “fire them”, but that would make them elegible for unemployment pay, too good for them.

The article in itself is ok- well-written, although it could use some more thorough backing by evidence here and there. Certainly nothing too extreme or incinerating. You cannot find it at Censorship Central (errr… Newcastle University) anymore, but El Reg kindly points to a site where the article has been reproduced.

Of course, the reproduction being on a discussion board, it is followed by a lot of nonsense. This seems to be one of the gems in all that nonsense, providing a bit more backing.

My personal stance, FWIW: I’m retreating from industrial supermarket meat. It sucks, and I don’t think animals need to die to produce that kind of tasteless crap (the same goes for their fruit&vegetables department, by the way). Tofu will do just as well for my regular diet of stir-fried veggies&meat(replacement) with rice. But, the tastiest and simplest dishes I make involve meat, and I love christmas time when all sort of exotic animals start appearing on the shelves :-) .

Oh, and to close this off: following the article’s reproduction, there are a lot of self confessed veggies (and vegans) that tell about how much healthier they became after switching from meat to being a veggie. Well, duh. If you read between the lines, they switched from eating crap (pizza’s, burgers) to being extremely involved in what they eat. Guess what: that works even if you don’t ditch the meat…
