Project Bike

Honda CB750F2No biker without a Project Bike. Well - if you like wrenching, that is ;-) . I just came back from buying my time sink for the coming months - a 1978 Honda CB750F2, in full race look (the picture doesn’t show it, but there’s a matching fairing). Looks may deceive, but my research indicates that in the ’70s, this was considered a super-sport bike.

I don’t know a lot of these 4 in-line engines, except that they have a reputation of being reliable and simple to maintain. The guy who sold it to me is building up a business based on these old machines (Blauweplaat Motoren is his business name - Blauwe Plaat means Blue Plate, referring to the blue license plate that was used before 1978, so a bike or car with a blue plate is easily identified as being ancient these days), he threw in an extra engine with the deal and looks like he’ll be ok to deal with for anything else I may need, so I have some hope that I’ll ride this bike this summer.

Plan A is to select the crappiest engine, get it sort of running so I can play with the bike, while the better engine gets a full overhaul in my garage. I’ll keep you posted, first step is getting the machine here :-)
