Squeak Foundation Elections

Elections coming up
The current Squeak Foundation (SqF) board will be stepping down in February 2006. Elections will be held to select the new board members.

After the “Castaways coup” formed last year, a lot has happened. And a lot hasn’t happened, but most of us know that we’re on a long journey here. And in the light of the venerable age of the Squeak system, what’s a year more or less?

In any case, we promised to disband the group this February latest. It seems to us that there is a genuine need for a board, even though there is no legal entity called “the Squeak Foundation” yet, so it’s time to select new people, this time with hopefully more democratic backing than the current group. Luckily, for continuity, it looks like most current members haven’t exhausted their energy yet (although I would think that most are quite close to it), which means that the first 5 candidates are known.

I hope that people especially from the large Squeak communities in Asia and Latin-America will feel compelled to step up as candidate - a board selected from a diverse candidacy by a large number of Squeakers will be a group with a strong mandate to continue in helping the Squeak community at large take shape.

Sadly I don’t think there is yet a large Squeak community in Latin America. There is a reasonable number of Spanish speaking developers there, specially in Argentina but Europe (Extremadura in Spain) is where most of the Spanish speaking Squeakers (mostly teachers and kids) are.

Not that this makes the slightest difference for your very valid points.
