Low-tech planning for Hi-tech environments

CQ2 planning "system"
CQ2 is a company I regularly work with - they’re a nice bunch of guys and were very much at the front wave of XP/Agile. They’re not dogmatic about XP, however, and constantly looking for ways to improve their processes.

One of the nicest results is their combination of story cards with a planning board - everyone who has been, err, a ‘card carrying’ member of the XP persuasion knows that stacks of cards can get lost, it’s often hard to get an overview, etcetera. The combination of planning board and story card is a T-card like sold by Nobo/Val-Rex. They come in lots of colors, so every project gets its own color. The system has been refactored a couple of times - at the moment the todo list (and the done list - to be invoiced) is at the bottom half, while the planned stories for this week and the coming week are at the upper half. T-cards are just large enough to write a story on, and shuffling on the wall during a stand-up beats bending over a table.

It’s probably what ever car repair shop out there already knows, but I haven’t seen it used in XP environments so I thought I’d mention it :-)
